Since 2005, the Council of Europe and the European Commission have been organising together a competition to discover and highlight innovative and efficient practices used in European courts for court organisation or for the conduct of judicial proceedings and deserving to be drawn to the attention of policy-makers and the judicial community so as to improve the functioning of the public justice system. Since 2014, the Council of Europe is organising the Crystal Scales of Justice on its own.
The 2014 European Crystal Scales of Justice prize was awarded to the General Council of Spanish Bars on on 16 October 2014 in Aveiro, Portugal on the occasion of the main event of the European Day of Justice. Three special mentions were also awarded. In addition to the e-File Project developed Centre of Registers and Information Systems, the accelerated familial procedure of the Family affairs courts and Bar in Berlin and the European Courts weblog and European law newsletters of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal, also received the special mentioning.
